While Attending the DSWAI members weekend in Westmeath, we stayed at the nearby Mount Dalton house. In the gardens of the house was this wonderful and unique raised beech tree avenue walkway, on a dry stone ditch.
I have never before come across something like it.
It is in the grounds of Mount Dalton House. (Also known as Loughan Hall)
The Estate is run as a farm by a young man who took over the Estate from his parents.
He is very passionate about restoring the Estate and looks after the beech avenue. He thinks it was probably planted by his grandfather who did a lot of with on the gardens and build a lot of the dry stone walls around the Estate.
